BBQ, Whiskey and Discount Shopping
So this weekend was one of firsts for me -
I had my first visitors to my new home (hoooray for Matt & Ryan!!!).
I tried my first taste of Big Bob Gibson's BBQ.
And I got my first chance to do the touristy stuff around here.
We visited: Burritt on the Mountain, Unclaimed Baggage Center, the US Space and Rocket Center, and the Jack Daniel's Distillery. And all of this in 1 weekend!
10 Things I Learned This Weekend:
1. The best BBQ I've ever had comes from Big Bob Gibsons in Decatur, AL.
2. Sweet tea is really good (Oh my goodness...I'm turning into a southerner...)
3. Lifetime movies can be so enjoyable when watched with friends on vacation on a morning when you have no desire to get moving - Maid of Honor therefore will always be one of Matt, Ryan and my favorite films!
4. Jack Daniels is technically bourbon until it goes through the charcoal mellowing process. Then it becomes whiskey.
5. You can paint pictures on spiderwebs - some crazy old lady did it ages ago and they have them on display up at Burritt on the Mountain.
6. The area near Scottsboro, AL looks alot like the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.
7. According to one of the rides at the Space Center there are rollercoasters on Mars. (OK, so it was a cheesy ride, but the rest was awesome.)
8. Terranova, which is my new favorite Italian restaurant outside of the Hill, can serve you in about the same speed as Fazoli's if they're busy enough. We even got our meals before our appetizer!
9. As my friend Matt enlightened me: in the northeast BBQs are something you cook on...not something you eat. We're slowly getting him adjusted!
10. The Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro is like the biggest garage sale you will ever find...with nicer stuff than most yard sales...it's basically heaven....
Oh...and evidently the Distillery is located in a dry county (how Bible belt, no?). Therefore, even though millions of barrels of the stuff are right there they can't sell any to you! So instead of free samples of the real stuff they give you some of the other kind of Lynchburg Lemonade. Sipping a glass in our rocking chairs on the veranda was probably my favorite moment of the entire weekend!
